Faith Family News October is Pastor Apprecia on Month and in SMTI we have been taught how to relate to our pastor. So, we would like to share some of this teaching with you. The New Testament is clear on this issue. As soon as believers catch on to these truths, the more sa sfied we all will be. There has never been a church split anywhere where everyone esteemed the pastor in love. All scriptures used in the following seven steps are from the New Testament. This is not being taught to exalt the pastor in any way but to breed peace in the congrega on of God. Bible Way #1: Jesus gave you your pastor as a gi . You must learn to receive him as exactly that and treat him in accord- ance -Eph. 4:8-16. Why would Jesus give you other gi s if you haven't learned yet to take good care of the first one He gave you? Bib l e W ay #2: It i s t he responsibility of each believer to know and recognize their pastor -1 Thess. 5:12. The Bible tells us to know no man a er the flesh. We should know our pastor by the "gi " that is in him. We should know our pastor by his character and integrity. We should know his style so well that when he moves in the Spirit, we know exactly what to do to flow with him. Bib l e Way #3: T he New Testament tells us that we are to esteem our pastor very highly in love -1Thess. 5:13. The word here is "esteem," not exalt. We exalt the Lord Jesus. We esteem our pastor in love. To esteem our pastor in love is to give him a very special place in our lives and to show our love for him by our ac ons. Bible Way #4: It is the spiritual responsibility of every believer to pray for their pastor -2Thess. 3:1; 1Tim. 2:1-3. We should pray for our pastor so the Word of the Lord will have free course and be glorified. We should pray for our pastor that he will be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men. Bible Way #5: The Bible teach- es us several mes over that we should give to the support of our pastor -Gal. 6:6(amp); 2Cor. 12:13; 1Cor. 9:11. It is the bibli- cal thing to do. We will be blessed ourselves if we take care of them. It is a great encouragement for a pastor when his congrega on does sweet things out of grateful hearts. Take an offering at his birthday, their anniversary, at Christmas, Pastor Apprecia on Month. Send them an edifying note in the mail every so o en. It will encourage them and change your church. Show honor where honor is due. Bible Way #6: The quicker you learn that it is biblically correct to imitate (follow) your pastor, the faster you will grow in God -Heb. 6:12; Phil. 4:9. You will inherit the promises sooner and with much less effort if you learn to imitate those who are doing it. Jesus is our standard and Pastor is our example. The God of peace will be with you if you copy your leaders. Bible Way #7: The Holy Spirit is He who inspired the authors of the New Testament, and He said that we should obey our pastor. -1 Cor. 11:1-2; Heb. 13:7. We are to kee p t he o rdina nces/ traditions as they are taught to us by our pastor. "Submit" and "obey" are words that the Lord Himself put in the Book. They were not given by the hand of man. Your pastor watches over your soul as one who must give an account. Make it profitable for yourself.
